Do I have to travel to Colombia for my procedure?
In most cases, no. With a power of attorney executed at the consulate or before a notary and duly apostilled, your attorney can move the matter forward for you. Only a few very specific acts require personal presence, and we flag those at the first consultation.
How do I grant a power of attorney from abroad?
We draft the power of attorney for your specific procedure and send it to you. You sign it at the Colombian consulate in your city or before a local notary; in the second case you will need the apostille from your country of residence, plus an official translation if the document is in another language. We guide you step by step so the document arrives without errors.
I am an heir but I live abroad —can I claim my share?
Yes. Living in another country does not affect your status as an heir. We start or join the succession, represent you before the notary or court, and work to protect your rights as an heir during the distribution, as provided by law.
Can I get divorced in Colombia without being in the country?
When both parties agree, the divorce can be processed before a notary through an attorney-in-fact, without your presence. If there are minor children, the agreement on custody, support and visitation must be reviewed by the Family Ombudsman (Defensor de Familia), which can take longer. If you already divorced abroad, we pursue the exequatur before the Supreme Court of Justice —or, for an uncontested foreign divorce, direct registration where it applies— so the decision takes effect in Colombia; this is a court process whose timing depends on the Court.
